Our society often treats disease as an isolated entity with no connection to our mind-body reality. However, integral health implies a balance in the different areas: physical, energetic, mental, emotional and social.
We will achieve an optimal state of health if we adopt preventive measures to avoid both chronic conditions (digestive disorders, diabetes, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, anxiety, depression…) and degenerative diseases (nervous system, interarticular…) or even cancer. Prevention begins before the development of the disease, but can also be adopted when the disease has already appeared, being, in this case, a secondary prevention, which aims to improve the quality of life and avoid complications of the disease.
In integral health, extreme importance given is to factors related to lifestyle, such as: Natural and balanced diet, quality water, toxic-free home, nutritious breathing and practices for physical/mental energy.
Natural and balanced diet
Based primarily on whole, non-manufactured foods, to which nothing has added been, let alone sugar! We must prioritize the consumption of fresh produce (vegetables, legumes, fruit, meat, eggs…), always with organic certification that guarantees the absence of GMOs, pesticides, and antibiotics.
Quality water
It is key to maintain a balanced pH in the body and prevent/improve diseases. The objective is to consume water free of heavy metals and chlorine and alkaline if possible.
Toxic free home
The indiscriminate use of hygiene, cosmetic, and cleaning products has put us in direct contact, through our breath and skin, with endocrine and hormonal disruptors (substances such as bisphenol A, phthalates, benzene, parabens, etc.) that studies associate with cancer and chronic diseases.
Nourishing respiration
Our breathing is the best nutrition at the cellular level. A correct breathing helps to recover and increase vitality, reduces or even eliminates pathologies, is the best preventive medicine to avoid acidification of the organism, allows eliminating most of the toxins (physical, emotional and mental) from our body.
Practices for physical and mental energy
There are practices recommended for all stages and conditions of life, as they are optimal for the spine, musculoskeletal and joint maintenance as well as improving vital energy. Among these we find both Yoga and Chi Kung, whose practice develops a balance between strength and flexibility, pays attention to breathing helping to stabilize the fluctuations of the mind and induce relaxation. Another practice such as Mindfulness focused is on the mind by working on mindfulness and is complementary to the previous ones.
Everything discussed so far are the basic preventive measures to achieve a comprehensive health. Do not wait until it is too late to apply these practices and improve your overall health.
